SeaMech x Magnetic Island Ferries. Marine Repower Project
Magnetic Island Ferries needed to re-power the Magnetic, one of the vessels running the daily crossing between Townsville and Magnetic Island. The existing engines had reached end of service life. Downtime on a vessel like this affects residents, tourists and every business on the island that depends on the crossing.
SeaMech, as Volvo Penta’s Australian distributor, coordinated the repower alongside Belcher Diesel Service and Riverside Marine. The project ran over several months, covering logistics, mechanical work, marine compliance and commissioning.
I followed the project from planning through to completion, capturing each stage as it unfolded. The production required coordination across three businesses, multiple locations and a timeline that moved with the realities of marine engineering.
The final deliverables were a three-minute project story video with interviews from key stakeholders and a thirty-second cut for social distribution.
The longer piece tells the full story of why the re-power was needed, how the team managed it and what it took to get right.
Not all production teams are able to produce a result within the boundaries of a project like this. This project demonstrates our ability to embed in a complex operation, earn trust from multiple teams and produce a finished piece that communicates the scale and professionalism of the work without overstating it.
Our footprint on the ground and impact on the project was negligible. Working in around the project without having a negative effect on schedules or safety.
